PMA is on today (Saturday) and Sunday at Darling Harbour so if you’re into photography, get down and see what’s up. The vibe is definitely a lot better than it was the last time it was here. For more information, check out the website.

We’ve talked before about some of Samsung’s touchscreen devices as early as our second radio show, and while those handsets felt a lot like they were playing on the same turf as the iPhone, the new Samsung UltraTouch is a handset with a different feel to it.

From what we can tell, it’s been designed to be more of an evolution of your regular phone rather than a Smartphone. That said, it’s got an 8 megapixel camera, a touchscreen, and a handy fake call function built into the phone that actually works.

Take a look below where we review it in one of our videos…

How much crap could we get for free?

Swag is what most people go to a computer expo for. Well, that and seeing new products. So our little experiment (which fellow Gadget Grill follower Ross Lieber helped us out with) involved walking through the entire place and looking for the best in free stuff.

Tell you what, there isn’t a whole lot. See for yourself…

This week, we’re showing you what we thought. Instead of just writing down our thoughts like we’d normally do, we’re trying a full video review to see if this is the format you might prefer.

The video is around 7 minutes and we go into detail about the phone, but leave us a comment if you prefer this style of reviewing to the original text-written “paragraphs on a page” that we normally go for.

In any case, here is the LG Arena…

Bluetooth mobile phone earpieces come and go.

Mostly, they go. They’re often uncomfortable, and feel like they want to fall out of my ear. Or they just go ahead and do fall out of my ear, into my lap, onto the floor of the car. Trying to find one, and then replace it into your ear, while doing 100kph odd along the freeway, is not a recommended course of action.

The Plantronics Discovery 925 is a little different from most that I’ve tried, in that it has a little plastic insert that seems to succeed in keeping the earpiece implanted within my ear better than most such devices that I’ve tried. And it’s somewhat comfortable: it doesn’t feel earpiece heavy, as many of these devices do.

Silver and stylish.

Setup of the 925 is typical of you expect to set up one of these devices, and as such it is easy and painless.

Sound quality is excellent, on both ends of the conversation. Even with the top down on the car – which makes for much more ambient noise within the environment, conducting conversations on the move using the 925 was fairly easy.

One feature that I thought was particularly elegant with the 925 was the manner by which you recharged it. It comes in a small carry case, and there’s a battery embodied within this case, which you can recharge in the normal manner by which you might expect to recharge the earpiece. This allows you to actually plug the earpiece into the case, and by doing so, you recharge it. Nice.

Which is probably the best word to describe the Plantronics: nice.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

Presenting On Air!, a new video segment filmed in the studio while the radio show is being broadcasted. It’s live though cut after the fact. Sort of like having a live webcam except without the needed high speed connection for uploading information.

In any case, in this segment we’re talking about some of the news on tonight’s show including a new gadget from Philips and English robotic fish…

Tap Tap Revenge was one of the most popular games when it first came out and was free. The new one takes the same premise, adds more skill, a new 3D engine, and provides some really cool features.

Check out what we think of Tap Tap Revenge 2 in our review below…

We’re working on videos!

That’s the easy way of saying it. The hard way of saying it includes words like “photons,” “electrons,” and that all important hard-to-pronounce word “stuff”.

In all seriousness, our hosting team are working on videos of both video games and hands-on with gadgets but they’re currently not faring too well with a cold.

We’re voicing clips when we’re not coughing so there should be proper video content up later this week to next week.

Take to the skies without leaving your bus seat in this review.

We’re taking a look at three of the four currently available flight simulation titles from Laminar Research available for the iPhone & iPod Touch in this video review!

With more titles on the way including X-Plane Racing, there hasn’t been a better time to check out one of the AppStore’s premiere games available for the touch-based devices.

Don’t believe us? Check out our video below…

Click here to view the embedded video.

Just like we did for our “I Love Katamari” review, the text of what’s been said can be found below.

Fancy a flight without having to leave the ground or pay sky-high prices?

Laminar Research aim to get you there and you don’t even have to leave you seat.

Now available for the iPhone & iPod Touch, the X-Plane series of games lets you do it all.

A much easier alternative to their 6-disc title of the same name that takes up around 80 gigs of space, X-Plane allows you to fly a professional flight simulation in the palm of your hand where ever you are.

Boasting some of the best accelerometer control ever, these games let anyone take on the role of pilot and fly where they want to.

Fairly realistic graphics and controls should keep even the most keen wingman happy here, and since the game is based off of its desktop counterpart, updates are pretty frequent too. This means you’ll get more planes and locations to fly in before you realise it.

We will say that it’s not for those seeking adventure as X-Plane is purely a simulator; you won’t be dogfighting like Snoopy in this game at all.

But as far as realism and fun goes, this one definitely a lot going for it. If you’re curious at the power the iPhone has, love flight sims, or maybe just want to show off to your friends, check out X-Plane today.

The Gadget Grill’s first video review is here!

I’ve been doing some playing with video equipment, cables, codecs, and all manner of things that have now turned my makeshift office into a jungle of cables and mayhem and now… now, I’ve got it all working!

The text of the video can be found below the video just in case you were curious what I was on about…

Click here to view the embedded video.

Rating: 4 out of 5 stars

One of the craziest exports to ever make its way out of the country is here, and it’s on the iPhone.

The Keita Takahashi original We Love Katamari is now available on the iPhone and is just like the original ball of stuff mashing fun it used to be.

Just like in previous Katamari games, you’ll find yourself fixing the problems that the King Of All Cosmos left behind making planets out of stuff that can be found on the Earth. This means rolling around gradually picking stuff up and mashing it together to make these big balls of… stuff.

For the iPhone, though, Namco Bandai have enabled the use of the accelerometer making the control of this game very much like Sega’s Super Monkey Ball for the same system. Tilt and pivot the device every which way and your prince will do as you command.

Even with the patches that this game finally has, it’s a shame that lag and slowdowns are still ever present. It’s also not very good that after all the gameplay, there’s no ending to greet you with.

In a way, Katamari feels like a game made for the iPhone that was rushed out to meet consumer demand. This doesn’t make it bad, but rather leaves you wanting just a little bit more.

That said, it’s still a lot of fun and if you’ve never played a Katarmari game, this 10 buck title is a great introduction to one of the coolest franchises out there.
