It was their farewell performance.

I consider it to be a fitting reference to the farewell Gadget Grill show, broadcast live on Sunday Sept 22 2019, in which I was privileged to have been joined by all of our regular presenters, from the Show’s original host and creator, and my elder son Leigh, through to Geoff Quattromani, Jason Murray and Alex Choros.
It was a bittersweet evening, but, as is typical of how we do things at the Gadget Grill, it was most certainly fun, starting with our pre-show dinner of pizza, accompanied by a vigorous discussion of exactly what topics we were going to cover during the show, through to the last gasp as we closed the mics for the last time.

Either end of the iPhone spectrum – rear
We have certainly covered a lot of ground over the almost eleven years that the show has been going, and it was indeed interesting to contrast things such as the very first iPhone model with the just released iPhone 11, looking at some punched cards (now I’m showing my age) and of course, the obligatory enjoyment of each others’ company in this forum for the very last time.
I hope that you enjoy the podcast of this show as much as we have enjoyed bringing the show to you.
And there’s an interesting back story to that. But first, a question: if you have members of your family who may be elderly, how do you assist them in managing their technology? Their phone? Internet access? NBN? Foxtel? May we suggest that you design a plan to assist you with this task, perhaps not too dissimilar from the plans that people in bushfire prone regions need to have in place?
The big power outage in Sydney’s eastern suburbs affected my family in a number of diverse ways, which led to the question above, as well as me having to grab a new phone for my 92 years young mum.
This week’s show covers all of that, including a chat about the phone, an Alcatel 3026G, and what I consider to be a few serious design flaws.
And Huawei have a new watch that you cannot buy – the Watch GT. We have the watch, we talk about it, and tell you how and where you can get one.
It’s all in this weeks jam-packed Gadget Grill, and here’s the podcast.

The problem is that there is nothing that is as fast as an optical viewfinder, and video monitors have always suffered from some form of lag, which for me impedes the photographic process.
In this week’s show we have a close look at Canon’s new EOS R camera, which is a mirrorless camera with a full frame sensor. Please check out our podcast of the show to hear how it performs.

With the holidays upon us, many people will be looking towards home automation ideas as ways to satisfy their gift giving urges. Listen to our show as we explore these concepts, and suggests ways to assist in managing the confusion.
