Pleo gets his plug pulled

In a move that will probably come as a surprise to absolutely no one and annoy all 10 or 15 people in Australia who bought one, makers of the robotic dinosaur toy Pleo – Ugobe – are looking like they are themselves going extinct.

The robot which was originally designed to be a self-aware being has been long considered an overpriced toy by any in the retail sector.

As someone who’s reviewed one, I can tell you that most people are half-right. Pleo has some very interesting engineering in it but even the functions that Ugobe suggest people use with the Pleo make the little dinosaur seem more like a toy than a prehistoric pal.

Interestingly, Harvey Norman have dropped the price on these to around $400 (which isn’t too far from where they originally sat, to be honest). So if you’re interested in buying a decent robot that won’t be of much use for much longer, you might want to drop by.

As for Pleo, may he rest in piece. Or pieces, if your real dog starts to get jealous.
